Editorial responsibility

The FolkUp Library books are signed with the pseudonym «Comandante FolkUp». Behind the pseudonym stands one living person: Andrei Klemenchenok, publisher and editor, resident of Portugal. The pseudonym holds the series, the way a name holds a cover; responsibility for every word rests with a human being. The model is the same as with Banksy or Pessoa: to move the figure of the author out of the reader's path — not to hide from it.

The human

Storylines, lines of thought, the structure of the books, literary parallels and all analytical conclusions arise without AI involvement — that is the author's work. The author personally reads through every book and every published text in full and personally signs off every version before release. Where an edition has a living reader — a native speaker (for the German edition, a reader in Berlin) — their notes go into the edits.

AI assistants

Editorial review by a human, source verification, hostile review, technical work and translation drafts are carried out by AI assistants of the Shield («ЩИТ») editorial system — each has its own name and its own role, they are listed in the colophon of each edition and on the team page. Every change they propose is a suggestion to the author; the final decision and responsibility remain with a human being.

Translations into English, Portuguese and German are made the same way: an AI-assistant translator prepares the draft, the series editor (Iskra) cross-checks the translation against the Russian original, the author signs off the edition; where there is a living reader — a native speaker — their remarks go into the edits. Who translated and who cross-checked is stated in the colophon of each edition.

Verifiability

The source of every fact is stated in the book's apparatus. The Russian original and the translations are published side by side under a CC BY-SA 4.0 licence — any paragraph can be checked, contested and republished in corrected form. Found an error? Write to us: we will correct it in the next version and thank you in the colophon.

Why voluntarily

Under Article 50(4), second subparagraph, of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, the obligation to label text generated with the help of AI does not apply where the content has undergone editorial review by a human and a natural or legal person holds editorial responsibility for its publication. That person is Andrei Klemenchenok. We disclose it nonetheless, as an editorial decision: the era these books are written about began in our editorial office too, and to conceal that would go against the books themselves.
